Christy Speakman is visual artist who grew up in New Orleans and moved back in 2020 after 15 years of practicing art in NYC. Recent works have been exhibited at the Odgen Museum of Southern Art, Ashe Cultural Center and Good Children Gallery in New Orleans, as well as Light Forms Gallery in Hudson, NY. She has exhibited in a diverse range of spaces and contexts in New York including the Bronx Museum of the Arts, Longwood Arts Gallery and the Bronx River Art Center, as well as Cuchifritos Art Gallery in the Essex Street Market, Chelsea Car Wash during Art in Odd Places SIGN 2009, Chashama, Equity Gallery and LABspace. Large scale works are currently on view in the permanent collections of Morgan Stanley in Houma, Louisiana and the NRG headquarters in Princeton, New Jersey. Speakman earned a Bachelor of Art from the University of New Orleans and an M.F.A from Ohio University, and early in her career participated in artist residencies at the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, the Santa Fe Art Institute, Oregon College of Arts and Craft and A Studio in the Woods. She is a two-time recipient of the Bronx Recognizes Its Own (BRIO) grant and a founding member of the +1+1 Artist Collective in NYC.
